An Open Letter to Oprah Winfrey Regarding the Hurricane Katrina Tragedy By Mike Makler

In a recent Statement on her TV Show (and repeated on her web site at Oprah.com) Oprah was quoted as saying "I think we all this country owe these people an apology."

Dear Oprah,

I am highly offended by your statement that "we all" owe these people an apology. I guess I am confused why I am required to apology. What exactly did I do to the Hurricane Katrina Victims. I don't even know how to do a rain dance let alone a Hurricane dance.

Oprah I do agree with you that local, state and federal governments could have and should have responded much faster. I do agree with you that the lack of response by the Government agencies on all levels caused the Hurricane Katrina Victims additional hardships. I do agree that it will probably be shown that lives were lost because the Hurricane Katrina Victims were failed by local, state and Federal Governments in the early days of the tragedy. Yes Oprah the Government officials from the Mayors, Governors, Senators, Congressmen, Cabinet Secretaries and even President George Bush himself owe the People of The Gulf Coast region not just an Apology but a full accounting of what went wrong and why.

Oprah I do not owe the People of Gulf Coast Disaster an Apology. I and the rest Americans do owe the people of the Gulf Coast Disaster area our support. We owe the People of the Gulf Coast Disaster Area our Thoughts and prayers. We Owe the People of the Gulf Coast Disaster any and all support we can give them including Cash Donations, Blood Donations, Food, Supplies, medical treatment, Jobs, and Housing. These are far better then an apology anyway.

Kind Regards
Mike Makler
